 tagged Crownbrushuk on Instagram on one of her make-up pictures and won our #MakeupMonday competition, I browsed through Maria’s work and fell in love! Her work is creative, different and most certainly catches your eye making you want to see more. I love how she turns her self into famous characters with just make-up!

For our blog takeover I asked Maria to create an exclusive look for the Crownbrush blog this week to inspire you all and encourage you to experiment with something different. Pop Art is my favourite at the moment so I am in awe with this look she has created for the Blog take over...

How Maria created the look:

*Blocked out brows with Pritt stick glue

*Application of Screen Face foundation all over face and brows in ‘Very Pale’, finished off with a dust of Kryolan white powder.

*Ben Nye Black Eye shadows was then used to apply Ben Nye black powder in areas that needed shading in, also a black on the outline of the lips and white to shade and highlight. The lips are then finished off with red lipstick.

Crownbrush Flawless Face Blender - How to use it!

Crownbrush Flawless Face Blender is the perfect sponge applicator that will help achieve a flawless, professional finish to any make-up design. My Flawless Face Blender is a must in my make-up kit. I actually can’t imagine not using it now. The specially designed shape makes make-up application flawless by allowing you to effortlessly apply in hard-to-reach areas of the face, It’s soft texture is smooth to the touch and its unique corves fit every contour of the face flawless natural. The Flawless Face Blender is latex-free, non-allergenic and odor free. If you dampen the sponge with warm water, it expands to twice its size and gets even softer which makes for a flawless foundation application.  Because of its double pointed tips, you can easily get under the eyes and around the nose to blend.  I have to honestly say this is the most ingenious makeup tool out there and is only £9.99! 

How to use:

The sponge works best damp. Always dampen the sponge before use.  Take the sponge and soak it in water.  The sponge expands to nearly double its volume.  Squeeze out all the water, and use the damp sponge to apply the makeup.

To apply simply use a stippling/bouncing motion to apply the makeup, so there is no need to drag or apply in a rubbing method. Just pick up some product with the sponge, and use a bouncing motion to apply the product on to the skin.  You can also roll the sponge in a side-to-side manner to blend the product.

Another way I use my Flawless Face blender is to smoothen out foundation application after I buff into the skin with my C404 Small Duo Face brush. It finishes off the make-up application making it streak free giving a flawless airbrushed look. It’s also great for softening and blending out a smoky eye with access foundation still on the sponge.

 Washing the Flawless Face Blender:

I clean the sponge immediately after use.  I dampen the sponge, and apply fairy liquid onto the sponge and use my fingers to wash off any product residue, taking care not to get my nails on the sponge or to squeeze too hard it breaks. So be gentle when washing it. Squeeze out all excess water after washing the sponge and leave it in the holder to dry.

IMATS London 2013!

Some of the make-up industry’s top talents were at The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show London this weekend alongside our stand run by the Crownbrush team unveiling new products and tools at IMATS London and other old favourites.  In the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competitions ran too- the looks the students created were stunning and so inspiring.  I also had the chance to demonstrate two of my make-up looks to my followers who have seen prior my demonstration to IMATS.

Disposables for Make-up Application

When working with SAFE BEAUTY Crownbrush disposable makeup brushes are a must! Crownbrush Disposbale range comes in disposable mascara wands, lip gloss applicator, lip brushes, high quality foam eye shadow applicators, blusher applictors, lash & brow groomers & Non Latex sponges. It's not great to be throwing something away after one use, but it's all about balance and as a professional makeup artist, you have a responsibility to practise SAFE BEAUTY and that means respecting your client's health and this is where Disposables come in handy.

Top tips for Safe beauty and using Crownbrush Disposables…

Apply Makeup From a Palette, Not Directly from the Product

DS15 Slant Tip Spatula-£1.10 for a Pack of 25

Product should not be applied directly to the client from a lipstick tube, mascara tube or other makeup containers. A good makeup artist will scoop out makeup and other product with a Crownbrush sterilized spatula, brush or other tool and place the product onto a clean palette  (Some makeup artists place product on their wrists—check to make sure this area has been disinfected with a wipe).

Avoid Double Dipping

DS13 Disposable Taklon Lip Brush- £4.04 for a Pack of 25.

DS03 Disposable Mascara Spoolie-£2.75 for a Pack of 25. 

When applying makeup, the makeup artist should not dip the mascara wand, lip stick wand or brush, or eye liner back into the product (unless the product has been placed onto a palette, etc.) Referred to as double dipping, this practice can contaminate the product.

Avoid Unsanitary Habits

The makeup artist should never blow onto product (like eye shadow powder, etc.) or brushes to remove excess product. A makeup artist will tap off excess powder or use cotton balls, pads or tissue to wipe off excess. The makeup artist also should not use saliva (like wetting fingertips with her tongue to remove a makeup blunder.) This should be done with makeup remover.

Avoid Sharing of Makeup

A makeup artist will avoid cross contamination of makeup tools and products (which includes not sharing with other makeup artists or at least making sure those artists practice good hygiene.)
