Gestural Abstraction Art Make-up Using Crownbrush

When I am feeling creative or preparing for a make-up job I love to get my Crown-brushes out and experiment with different make-up looks on myself. This look I created is called 'Gestural Abstraction'  It's a chance for me to show off the process of making art! Gestural Abstraction means you are demonstrating a variety of techniques that include dripping, dabbing, smearing, and even flinging paint on to the surface of the canvas (my face).

To create these techniques it all depends on actions directed by the artist (myself using my Crown-brushes) using a  sense of control interacting with chance or random occurrences better known as Action Painting! I used various techniques with my Duo Fibre brushes in different sizes, face paints and powder eyeshadows from the Smoke It Out palette and Professional 88 Palette (01) .Within this look it was all down to movement on how I was feeling, so therefore was not a planned look. This was all down to layering the makeup with several techniques.

Duo Fibre Brushes for The Eyes

The C406 Duo Fibre brush from Crownbrush is one of the best sellers. I am not surprised as I would be lost without this brush in my make-up brush kit now. This is why I am doing a blog post dedicated purely on this amazing brush after all I call it my ‘Magic Wand’ because there are just so many ways to use it!  

This brush has been designed to create a buildable colour and add texture for a lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments creating flawless, airbrushed make-up looks with cream, liquid or powder products.  All Duo Fibre brushes are made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres.

How to use it?

My primary use for this brush is in the application of liquid foundation. Apply liquid foundation onto the back of your hand and then use the brush to stipple the liquid on a little at a time until the desired coverage is achieved. The result is a flawless 'airbrushed' effect - natural; no streaks; perfectly blended. Using this method, I find that I use less foundation and get a perfect finish. I have two of these brushes in my kit- one for liquid foundation and the other for loose powder or mineral powders giving more of a natural and less mask-like look when setting foundation, as the synthetic bristles picks up less powder than a denser brush does.

Duo Fibre Brushes For The Face- GIVEAWAY

Face Powder- C406 £9.29

 Perfect for loose or mineral powders giving more of a natural and less mask-like look when setting foundation, as the synthetic bristles picks up less powder than a denser brush does.

Liquid Foundation- C404 £7.69

The C404 Duo fibre is perfect for reaching the crevices of the face like the sides of your nose, ears, forehead, around the mouth and under the eyes. It basically applies liquid foundation in a precise application with less streaking when stippling. But being small also attributes to more time taken to apply a whole face. Otherwise, if you have time to spare, be prepared for a lovely airbrushed complexion.

Bronzer- C442 £10.49

Bronzer is used to bring colour back to a face washed out with foundation. You want to apply enough without looking too dark. So you have a natural bronzed look. The C442 is perfect for applying bronzer because the end of the bristles are very light so you have a lot more control with the brush over how much bronzer to apply. 

Blush- C436 £7.49

The larger C404 brush can also be used to apply blush too, but this is my own preference I love to use the C436 to apply liquid/cream blusher stippled into the cheeks then softly blended out with the C404.  The c404 size allows me to apply it exactly where I want it and not have blush applied on too large an area. Using Duo fibre brushes also allow you to create a buildable intensity to your blush. If you like to use Powder blush too I suggest using the C427 Tapered Duo Fibre Blush Brush

Another use … Highlighting!

Using the C404 I always highlight the top of my cheeks and middle of the nose, by swirling the C404 brush in the highlighting powder and it picks up just the tiniest amount of powder, giving that natural glow to the skin instantly. This works with cream and powder highlighters too.
